On Tuesday of this week, Kafuro was visited by three former pupils: Gloria, Wilber and Razak to teach the P6 pupils how to use the cob oven which we rebuilt over the summer. Not only did they teach the pupils how to make pizza, pancakes and chapattis, they also led the pupils in a clean up of the area around the school grounds.
This is a particularly significant event as it shows how the Twinning Project has created long – term impact. Former pupils who have worked with UK teachers and rangers now going back into school and passing on (paying forward) the knowledge they have learnt. From the photos below, it is obvious that Gloria’s pizzas are more more ambitious than Mr Stanley ever managed!

The cob oven is working well, but has some large cracks in it. We think it is because the weather was so wet when it was constructed that the clay was too damp. The plan is to rebuild in a couple of years time with more sand and straw in the mix.

Overview
A community clean up exercise was successfully carried out today at Kafuro Primary School and Kafuro Trading Centre. The activity involved Primary Six pupils only and aimed at promoting environmental hygiene, community responsibility, and teamwork among the learners.
Activity Details
The pupils, equipped with protective gear, worked alongside members of the local community to collect litter and clear the surroundings of both the school and nearby trading centre. The activity was conducted under close supervision to ensure safety and effective participation.
The exercise attracted support from the wider community.

Many thanks to Gloria, Razaq, Wilber and Mr Mukama for organising the pupils and providing the opportunity for baking..
