Beekeeping general practice

Great work done by our counterparts in Liss Junior School.
The children and some staff members had a long awaited practice on bee keeping.
This involved Janet our park partner from Queen Elizabeth National park in western Uganda that neighbors the school as the park is very much into the idea and only wait to have our wining of the competition to have all done in the park and looking to have Kafuro Primary school have the thirty Bee hives serving them in the specified functions.
The children in Kafuro have vowed to always volunteer to have the bee hives protected and kept in good conditions if we win the competition.

Janet our Community Conservation Ranger said that it was a very nice idea that will increase awareness and proper friendship among the children in the UK and the entire world.
Yowasi our link teacher recommends the project very much and says that in addition to the very many functions mentioned at hand, the Bees project will increase opportunities of learning as it has been the culture to share conservation and educational commonalities and differences.
All the teachers in Kafuro Primary School look forward to the chance of winning the competition.

Beekeeping for the first time

In preparation for the national final of The School We’d Like it was important that we had some real experience of beekeeping. At the end of last week Imogen, Mr Stanley and My Haycock (our site manager) went to see some bees at Mrs Barker’s house (Mrs Barker is a member of Petersfield and District Beekeepers Association).

All the visitors had to put on full beekeeping suits and ensure there were no gaps for bees to get into. Inspecting the hives was brilliant. The bees were out in force gathering nectar and pollen and were quickly filling frames with honey. They didn’t pay much attention to the humans and it was great to view them at close quarters.

Thanks to Mrs Barker and Mrs Crawley for organising the visit. Everyone really enjoyed themselves.

Newspaper coverage of The School We’d Like final

Before next Saturday’s final of The School We’d Like there has been increased newspaper coverage at both a local and national level. The first article is in the Petersfield Post which drawers attention to the joint efforts in both schools and the fact we are drawn together by the Twinning Project. We will post more articles as they become available.

Busy Bees in the kitchen

In HG, we have begun to find out all about Bees. In the kitchen today, we used honey as a main ingredient for our baking. We made ‘Honey Biscuits’. Biscuits are usually made with an amount of sugar, but not these biscuits! The Honey was sweet enough. We also added some ‘Ginger Spice’ for extra flavour. Like all good bakers, we had to taste our creations and they were yummy! We would highly recommend them.

We would be very interested to know if our friends at Kafuro Primary school harvest the  honey from bees and how they use it.
